What emergency call-outs actually covers

What it is

Rapid response to gas and heating emergencies: total loss of heating or hot water, leaks, boiler lockouts, suspected gas smells, frozen condensates and pressure loss faults — attended by a Gas Safe registered engineer with 38+ years' experience.

Who it's for

Homeowners, tenants (with landlord authorisation), landlords, letting agents and small businesses across Watford and Hertfordshire.

When you need it

As soon as it happens — especially with suspected gas leaks, no hot water in a rented property, or heating loss in cold weather with vulnerable occupants.

Why professional help matters

Emergencies are where poor service is most expensive. The wrong engineer at 10pm can guess, over-charge, fit the wrong part and be back next week. The right engineer diagnoses first time and gets you working.

The cost of leaving it

Delaying an emergency almost never makes it cheaper. Waiting until Monday is how a £180 repair becomes a £600 one.

What can go wrong

  • A gas smell is a life-safety issue — the National Gas Emergency Service is 0800 111 999. Don't wait.
  • A boiler leaking internally will damage the pump, PCB and electronics — every hour it's left on adds to the bill.
  • In winter, a frozen condensate that keeps re-freezing can crack the trap and require boiler dismantling to fix.
  • For landlords, no hot water in a rented property can breach repair obligations within 24 hours.

Common mistakes we see

  • Repeatedly repressurising a leaking system until the PRV finally fails.
  • Turning the boiler off at the fuse to 'reset' repeatedly instead of getting the fault code read.
  • Waiting for the weekend to end when a same-day fix would have been cheaper and warmer.
  • Letting a non-Gas Safe handyman investigate a gas fault.

In detail

'Emergency' means different things. Here's what we treat as urgent, and what we recommend if you're in a genuinely dangerous situation.

If you smell gas — call 0800 111 999 first

The National Gas Emergency Service is free, 24/7 and will make the property safe. Open windows, turn the gas off at the meter if safe to do so, don't use electrical switches, and leave the property. Once the gas network has made the property safe we can attend to identify and repair the source.

No heating or hot water

The most common winter emergency. Usual causes are a frozen condensate (very common in cold snaps), a stuck diverter valve, a failed pump, low system pressure or a lockout with an error code. Most are same-visit fixes.

Boiler leaks and pressure loss

A leak inside the boiler needs attention urgently — water and electronics don't mix. If pressure keeps dropping and you're topping the filling loop up daily, there is a leak somewhere. We isolate, diagnose and repair.

Landlord emergencies

For landlords and letting agents, we can attend, diagnose and invoice directly, and coordinate access with tenants. Invoices are itemised and suitable for management-company records.

Frozen condensate pipes

In cold snaps, condensate pipes routed externally can freeze and shut the boiler down. We can thaw safely, get you working again and (where practical) re-route or insulate the pipe to prevent it happening again.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge a call-out fee for emergencies?

No. There is no call-out fee. You pay for the repair — priced up front where possible — not for us turning up.

How quickly will someone get to me?

Matt answers personally wherever possible, including out-of-hours. Typical response time across our service area is within one hour.

Are you 24/7?

The line is answered around the clock wherever possible. Matt attends emergencies in his service area day and night.

What do I do if I smell gas?

Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first. Open windows, don't use switches, and leave the property. Then call us to repair the fault once the network has made the property safe.

Do you attend landlord emergencies?

Yes — we work with landlords and letting agents across Watford and Hertfordshire and can invoice management companies directly.

How much is an emergency repair likely to cost?

Simple faults are usually £150–£300 including parts. Larger repairs are priced in writing before any work starts, and we'll always tell you if replacement is more economic than repair.
